Projects: Elohim Notes
Elohim Notes is a simple to use Bible note-taking web application and notes resource. No matter if you are publishing your sermon notes, or starting a Bible study, Elohim Notes is an awesome site to use.
User Network
Even though you do not need an account to search and read through Elohim Notes, to take notes (public or private) and interact with others, you do. The login is the same as your login for Prayrbox, and if you don’t have a login for Prayrbox, you can sign-up for one here, and it will work there too!
Public or Private?
Are you just reading through your Bible and taking notes as you go? I don’t want people to see my random notes/thoughts. I want to refine them more. With Elohim Notes, all notes are set to “Unpublished” by default. So take notes freely, and when you want (or if you never want) you can publish them with just one click. The idea of the Elohim Notes system was note-taking. Sharing those notes is the logical flow of things, being an Internet application. So if you want to share, it is just a click away.
AJAX-based Editor
The notes editor is a simple AJAX-enabled application. Where is the AJAX, you ask? Load any note, add a note, or simple edit a note and it is using AJAX to carry out the function.
The editor is very easy to use, as it is just one big text area, and for those familiar with Textile, it is enabled on Elohim Notes, and also simple HTML is available for the more experienced. Of course we provide guides to those in app for anyone not familiar with either.
eBible Integration
What is a Bible note-taking application without a built in Bible? Nothing! Well, the guys at eBible offer an awesome API for their eBible Web 2.0 Bible, and because of that, we have eBible integration. In the Editor, you can quickly pull up any Bible verse you want very quickly and easily.
Tag-based Browsing/Searching
Tags are quick and easy descriptive words for your notes. When you post notes, you can apply as many tags as you want. Then, when a user is browsing notes, these tags help them find your notes. So if I am looking for notes on “Hebrews”, I would look for notes tagged “Hebrews”. It is up to you to figure out what the other users are going to find your notes by.
Bookmarks
You can bookmark anything! If you find some notes that interest you, you can just click the star on the page, and the page will be bookmarked. Same with users! Following a pastor’s church sermons? Bookmark the pastor’s profile, and from the bookmarks window you will see the latest three published notes from that pastor.
